Fed up. It’s time for some fenders.

I have this thing about fenders / mud guards. They’re kinda lame.
But I can’t handle getting so wet anymore. I’m fed up of having an ice cold sodden crotch every morning.
So I might these: SKS Race Blades. Are they good?
I don’t have any mounts on my bike so my choice is limited.

These are cheaper than the SKS ones and pretty good!

Hi Jon
I’m with you. I never thought of myself as a mudguards kind of guy, but this winter I decided to give in to the nagging annoyance of a wet backside.
My road bike doesn’t have mounts, so I was tempted by the SKS Race Blades, but then I got my hands on a pair of Mr. Crud’s Road Racers:

So far so good. Virtually idiotproof to fit, floaty light and they don’t make my road bike look too elderly.
And I have a dry bum.

Yeah they’re pretty good. I’ve got some. They’re not full length, but they seem to cover the important sections of the wheels. I’d definitely get some.

I use Race Blades with no problems on my road bike. A lot of people on the cycle forums have been raving about the Crud Catcher Roadracers:

Crud Roadracers are getting a lot of positive press: http://www.crudproducts.com/products/roadracer
Not bad looking either, as mudguards go…

I’m all for the CRUD Roadracers. After commuting every day for 5 years I was getting fed up with the cold, wet winter bum syndrome – so as an anti mudguard man i bought Roadracers, absolutely brilliant, really light and you hardly notice them. They also look pretty slick / discreet.
I went out for a quick ride on my lunch break today, it’s wet and cold. Wouldn’t have done that before having these guards.

Check how much clearance you have between your rear wheel and your seatstay bridge before buying Roadracers. I run my chain too short for the Crud guards to clear the tyre (I have track ends rather than vertical drops).
Also, Roadracers are designed to be run with a rear brake so you’d have to bodge the fit a bit (though a spare ziptie should do it).

DON’T DO IT
Remember…. Mudguards are for pussies

you all have to remember that jon is no ordinary cyclist, he shuns the obviously needed for impractical irrelevance and a blogged soundbite, hence his alleged wholly innapropriate riding to work winter attire (as he’d be way too tight to buy any decent winter clobber) that he took a photo of above which actually belongs to a tramp he met at the fair recently when lending him a pair of his pink american apparel underpants. what annoys us most is that his lovely wife drops him off in her car in our works car park very early in the morning where he (unknown to her) then sprays himself with water and straw juice collected from his gutter into an old dirty 25 gallon drum and then blogs about how horrible his life is when he lives on 200m up the road in a luxury penthouse with a helicopter pad on the roof. it’s all attention seeking. he doesn’t need mudguards, he’s never even ridden a bike, ever. please no more mudguard advice, he just needs professional help.

One word, waterproofs. Wiggle do a good line that don’t look like fishing waders and keep you bone dry.
