I have a stack of these DVDs on my desk from the good people at Surfers Against Sewage.

“View from the green room” is the Uk’s first environmental surf documentary – now, i’m not a very good salesman so i’ll just copy what they’ve written about it:
” ‘View from the greenroom’ examines the pollution issues of today through the eyes of Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) campaigners. Joined by Team Quicksilver, our international crew score barrel after barrel at some amazing new locations in Scotland, before breaking off to reflect on the dangers our coastline faces from poor shipping practises, the unregulated discharge of toxic chemicals, conveyor belts of litter travelling up on the Gulf stream and the threats to surfing from climate change. With a touch of humour we highlight these problems in true SAS style.”
So there it is.
First 6 people to email me with their addresses will get one, but only if you answer the following question correctly mind!:
“Do you want a free dvd?”
a) Yes
b) no
send your answers to hollie(at)howies(dot)co(dot)uk.
(Ps – the answer is A)

A couple of weeks ago a few of these little notebooky-looking things started cropping up around the office, turns out that Ade had been making them from those bits of scrap paper that everyone has in their office….you know, the unloved ones that hang around by the printer feeling unwanted.
reduce, reuse, recycle and that.

I managed to wangle a few days off work last week so went to visit my sister down in London.
Being such a country bumpkin & coming from a town as small and sleepy as Cardigan, I always find london so exciting and overwhelming.
It was a really good couple of days, but i suppose it’s a bit like babysitting – it’s fun and enjoyable at the time, but then it’s nice to hand it back and go home!

After making the long journey back on Sunday, I went on a walk through the woods in Llangoedmor (not far from Cardigan) where i came across this little cottage, and it struck me just how different the country and the big city are…

i kind of know where i’d prefer to be though…. :)

My friend Gavin popped this link up online earlier, it’s pretty clever! (there’s some ‘colourful’ language in it, so it might not be suitable for young ears – but it’ mostly about the visuals anyway, so i guess it’ll be just as good muted!)

Here’s the desciption:
“This is a short film that was directed by the French animation collective H5, François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy + Ludovic Houplain. It was presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2009. It opened the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and won a 2010 academy award under the category of animated short.”

It was such a lovely weekend ‘weatherwise’
There wasn’t a cloud in the sky over Cardigan yesterday, and although it was still pretty cold it finally feels as if we’re starting to shake off the last bits of winter and can look forward to Spring.
What better way to sum up springtime than snowdrops – I took this yesterday afternoon while on a walk through Cwm Degwel. lovely stuff! Viva la primavera!

On Friday night myself, Emma and Lydia went to the Queen’s hall in Narberth to watch The Gentlemans Dub Club; it was such a great night – lots of good music, laughs, (and maybe some dodgy dancing on my behalf…)
Have a listen , although i will warn you, it’ll make you crave some Summer sunshine…!
To cap off the weekend i went and took some photos down a deserted Mwnt beach, the beautiful sunset made the cold fingers and toes worth it!

It’s sunny!
..or rather….”it’s not raining!” (‘sunny’ might be pushing it a bit)
To celebrate the first slight glimpse of the sun in months, we’ve been playing some Summary beats in HQ.
party time.

“I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air” — Nathaniel Hawthorn
Autumn is a funny one.
One one hand you’ve got the autumn leaves, the cold crisp mornings, wrapping up warm and log fires. All very lovely and picturesque indeed.
…then you’ve got the rain.
the rain.
the rain.
So i’m calling on you to send in your favourite autumn snapshots to me here – hollie(at)howies(dot)co(dot)uk, to remind us why autumn (or Fall if you’re Kim) is actually quite a nice month afterall. I’ll make a slideshow of the nicest ones at the end of next week. Remember to include your name and where the photo was taken so i can credit you accordingly.
So then this time next week we’ll all be able to sit back in front of a log fire, crack open a beer (hey it’ll be friday afterall) and enjoy…And then hopfully have an urge to get out there and enjoy it properly.
Here’s one to get you started. It was taken last weekend in Cwmcou, just outside Cardigan. Nothing spectacular i know…i just like trees.

Over the weekend i stumbled across this site for The cube works company in Toronto, Canada.

The artists design the pieces in the same way that pixels on a computer screen are coloured and organised to form images. As if that’s not complicated enough, they then have to actually work out each cube puzzle to get the colours they need. phew, seems like too much hard work.

When me and my sister we little we used to just peel off the coloured stickers and then stick them where we needed them to go on the cube. Cheating? perhaps…
